NGV Earth and Hadean Energy Join Forces to Build Breakthrough eSAF Pilot Plant

Melbourne, Victoria – Jul. 2025: In a groundbreaking move toward greener skies, NGV Earth and Hadean Energy have joined forces to build a first-of-a-kind integrated pilot facility for producing synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF). This pioneering collaboration blends NGV Earth’s cutting-edge catalytic fuel synthesis process with Hadean Energy’s revolutionary tubular Solid Oxide Electrolyser (tSOE) technology, heralding a major step forward in aviation sustainability.

Hadean electrolyser pilot demonstrates efficiency and durability at Bluescope Steel Plant

Nov. 2024: CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, has successfully trialled its game-changing hydrogen production technology at BlueScope’s Port Kembla Steelworks in New South Wales, demonstrating affordable and renewable hydrogen can be generated at scale to help decarbonise heavy industry.

CSIRO’s tubular solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) technology has clocked 1000 hours of successful operation in the trial with BlueScope Steel which commenced in October 2024.

Unlike conventional hydrogen electrolysers, which rely heavily on electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, CSIRO’s advanced SOE technology uses both waste heat (for example, steam from the steelworks) and electricity to produce hydrogen with greater efficiency.

Hadean tests first-of-a-kind electrolyser at the CSIRO’s Hydrogen Technology Demonstration Facility

Nov. 2024: Hadean Energy are using CSIRO’s Hydrogen Technology Demonstration Facility to test their first-of-a-kind tubular Solid Oxide Electrolyser (tSOE), which promises high-efficiency, low-cost green hydrogen and syngas for e-fuels.

The Hydrogen Technology Demonstration Facility, at CSIRO’s Clayton campus in Victoria, provides the infrastructure for hydrogen technologies to be safely tested and demonstrated by innovators in industry and research. Along with supplies of deionised water, renewable electricity in various phases, instruments and safety devices, CSIRO can also provide practical technical expertise for the demonstration project. The facility has been used by researchers in everything from hydrogen production to storage and utilisation.

Hadean to present at the fifth annual Innovation Bay and ARENA Renewables Startup Showcase

Nov. 2024: The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has announced the six startups it has selected to present at the fifth annual Innovation Bay and ARENA Renewables Startup Showcase.

The event is returning for the fifth year on Thursday 21 November in Sydney. The theme, ‘Solar and Beyond: The Next Generation of Renewables’, is expected to shine a spotlight on six groundbreaking innovations that are shaping the future of clean energy, solar and beyond connecting them with investors to accelerate sector growth.

Applications were open to all early-stage and scaleup companies innovating in the renewables, climate tech and cleantech sectors. A distinguished panel of judges, including impact VC partners, energy and climate change specialists, and cleantech investors, narrowed down more than 85 applications to a final selection of six. The judges evaluated factors such as market size and business opportunity, team suitability and strength, competitive advantage, investment attractiveness at the current stage, and potential for substantial industry impact, as well as alignment with the theme.

Hadean backs CSIRO report highlighting hydrogen electrolyser manufacturing as a transformative opportunity for Australia

Nov. 2024: Hadean Energy welcomes the CSIRO’s latest report which identifies hydrogen electrolyser manufacturing as a critical opportunity to position Australia as a global leader in the green energy transition and mentions Hadean as one of a handful electrolyser manufacturers in Australia.

The report outlines significant economic and industrial benefits, projecting that by 2050 the industry could generate $1.7 billion in revenue and 4,000 jobs, with an additional $1.2 billion and 1,000 jobs from installation services.

Hadean Energy awarded Australia-UK collaboration grant to advance clean hydrogen technology

Oct. 2024: – Hadean Energy, a game-changing clean hydrogen electrolyser company, today announced it has been awarded a grant through the Australia-UK Renewable Hydrogen Innovation Partnerships program. This competitive grant supports collaborative research, development, and demonstration projects between Australian and UK companies focused on advancing renewable hydrogen solutions.

Hadean Energy will partner with the UK’s largest zero carbon energy generator – EDF Energy, other UK partners including MCG UK, Minviro and Cranfield University, and Australian company Certscape, to deliver a 5kW electrolyser system, which will be demonstrated, tested and monitored in the UK.

CSIRO spins out new hydrogen tech that uses 30 pct less wind and solar

Aug. 2023: The CSIRO has spun out a new company that features electrolyser technology that requires 30 per cent less wind and solar, a significant gain in the race to make green hydrogen production as efficient and cost effective as possible.

A new company, called Hadean Energy, will trial the cutting-edge technology at BlueScope’s Port Kembla Steelworks to demonstrate the equipment at pilot scale in an industrial environment before moving on to megawatt scale installations.

From research to patent to impact

Apr. 2023: CSIRO partnering with industry and investors to commercialise technology with the potential to revolutionise how we produce hydrogen.

This technology can replace almost one third of the electricity required for hydrogen production with low-cost or waste thermal heat from industrial processes. It has potential to decarbonise industries globally.

“The technology is good news for industry because it helps them meet these targets. It also dramatically lowers manufacturing costs and cuts out the technical challenges of storing and transporting hydrogen at scale by using hydrogen directly in processes like ammonia and methanol synthesis and steel making.”
